Weekly coached race training takes place 6:30-8:30pm on Monday evenings.
Club race training fee: £5 GBP per session. (Plus discounted slope fee paid directly to Gloucester ski and snowboard centre). Standard annual membership is £25: for more details see our membership and policies page.
What to bring:
The only things to make sure you have with you are a long-sleeved top, full-length trousers and gloves. All other equipment can be borrowed from Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre, free of charge. It is compulsory to wear a helmet at all times whilst training with us.
Races and Other events:
Our members regularly enter local and national ski races and the club holds its own Open Ski Championship annually.
Western Counties Ski Club enters at least one team (often more) in the Gloucester Summer Race League run monthly from April to October each year. Club racers of any ability level can take part and we have a base camp part way up the slope where you can gather with the club to prepare equipment, socialise, watch and support each other.
Some club members also take part in national competitions and a small group take part in international snow races. We host our own Club National race annually and our members enter other clubs’ races, national schools races, the GBR series and national championships. Some of the wider club (especially committee members) also help out at races (locally and nationally) as volunteer officials. For more details please see the GBSKI calendar.
The club runs race training day camps locally in some of the school holidays and prior to Covid and Brexit held annual residential training camps in SnowWorld Landgraaf, Netherlands which may recommence as soon as circumstances permit.
In early spring we also run an annual club ski holiday, which for 2022 took place in Cervinia, Italy in mid-March.
More detailed information about races and other club events is available to members via the members’ page.
